Our focus this week is on Redondo Beach, a wonderful family-friendly city with a lot of superior school choices in and around its charming neighborhoods.
PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Jefferson Elementary – Proud to be a National PTA School of Excellence, Jefferson Elementary teaches kids from kindergarten through 5th grade. With the tagline “Learn, Grow, Thrive”, Jefferson offers a robotics team, art programs, and a running club. 600 Harkness Lane, Redondo Beach – 310.798.8631
Washington Elementary – Home of the Explorers, Washington Elementary serves kids in kindergarten through 5th grade and offers a unique S.T.A.R.S. program. Birney Elementary – The smallest elementary school in Redondo Beach, Birney has been serving kids in grades K-5 for 54 years. Teachers participate in a school-wide Growing Educators program that offers 1:1 coaching, while an expansive Learning Center and very involved PTA ensure a great education for young children. 1600 Green Lane, Redondo Beach – 310.798-8626
Beryl Heights Elementary – This K-5 school, first established in 1925, is the recipient of many awards, including the Let’s Move Active Schools National Award (2016), a Gold Ribbon School Award (2016), and the National Healthy Schools Gold Award in 2018, with programs from a 100-Mile Club to a 5th Grade Band. 920 Beryl Street, Redondo Beach – 310.798.8611
Alta Vista Elementary – Also serving kids in grades K-5, Alta Vista is home of the Wildcats and offers programs from Spanish enrichment to theater productions, as well as an outdoor science camp, visual and performing arts, and a new computer lab. 815 Knob Hill Avenue, Redondo Beach – 310.798.8650
Lincoln Elementary – Serving children in kindergarten through 5th grades, Lincoln Elementary offers two combo classes: a 1st/2nd as well as a 4th/5th grade class. A California Gold Ribbon School, Lincoln Elementary provides a School Wellness Council as well as an after-school enrichment and Eureka Math programs.
Tulita Elementary – A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, Tulita Elementary (also grades K-5) became a noted California Green Ribbon School in 2017. Academic enrichment programs include Hands On Art, LiveWell Nutrition & Gardening, and Science Week. MIDDLE SCHOOL
Adams Middle School – Serving kids in 6th through 8th grades, Adams Middle School is in the “top tier of all middle schools in the state of California” and boasts a California Gold Ribbon School designation. Parras Middle School – Spirit Week, Random Acts of Kindness, and a Friendship Club are just a few of the activities offered at Parras Middle School, where kids in grades 6th through 8th are presented with a goal of “ensuring continual growth in every student’s learning and academic achievement while promoting responsible citizenship”. 200 North Lucia Avenue, Redondo Beach – 310.798.8616
HIGH SCHOOL
Redondo Union High School – Home of the Sea Hawks and serving grades 9th through 12th, Redondo Union High School is a noted Green Ribbon School by the California Department of Education, has a storied sports program, and provides high schoolers unique programs like Project Lead the Way (a national program to foster STEM fields) and dual enrollment in El Camino College courses, if desired. PRIVATE SCHOOLS
St. Lawrence Martyr School – Teaching kids from Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade, St. Lawrence Martyr’s goal is to “provide an environment of academic excellence rooted in the Catholic faith”. Riviera Hall Lutheran School and Preschool – Including Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade, this private elementary school has been serving the Redondo Beach community since 1952. Incorporating a faith-centered educational experience, Riviera Hall focuses on “building character, integrity, community and academic success in a positive and nurturing environment”. Valor Christian Academy – From infants through 8th grade, Valor Christian Academy offers “Christ-centered living and rigorous academics”.
