Like it or not, August is here - which means this is the final post in our It’s a South Bay Summer series. Although the light is changing ever so slightly and the sun is coming up just a tad later, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy summer at the beach. So dive in to our not-to-be-missed events in August (and one in September to kick off the upcoming season):
The AVP Gold Series Manhattan Beach Open – August 19-21
The “granddaddy of them all”, the iconic Manhattan Beach Open is back at the Manhattan Beach Pier this summer. Since 1960 this beach volleyball tournament has been bringing the best of the best together and is known as the epicenter of the sport. This year, 32 teams will vie for the right to be embedded in the Walk of Fame on the Pier, with the largest purse in history up for grabs. Get there early. Summer Fishing at its Finest
This is the best time of the year to be on the water and right now the fish are biting! Bluefin tuna have made the migration up north and are in local waters. Mahi Mahi, Yellowtail, and Barracuda are also out there and trust us – nothing beats a fresh fish taco. Hop on an open-party trip or reserve a private charter out of King Harbor: www.redondosportfishing.com
Catalina Classic – August 28
Marking the 45th year of this legendary event, this 32-mile paddleboard race from the Isthmus at Catalina Island to the Manhattan Beach Pier is “one of the most celebrated endurance paddleboard races in the world”. Grab a coffee and cheer on the paddlers as they finish this grueling race on the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. For more information: https://catalinaclassicpaddleboardrace.com
BeachLife RANCH Festival – September 16-18
There’s no better way to celebrate the end of summer than at the BeachLife RANCH Festival – a brand-new extension of the popular BeachLife Festival that brings together #CowboySurfers. This premier live music event has a lineup that’s better than the one at 32nd and includes Dierks Bentley, The Lumineers, Waylon Jennings, and Brandi Carlile, to name a few.
