El Segundo's Halloween Frolic is a Saturday event. Last year that put it on October 25, six days before trick-or-treating. In 2026, October 31 is a Saturday, so the Frolic falls on Halloween itself. Main Street hosts the afternoon, Old Town Music Hall picks up the evening, and the city's other October events all lead up to that day.
The Frolic runs Saturday, October 31, from noon to 4 p.m. on the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street. The city lists El Segundo City Hall at 350 Main Street as the location. Presale wristbands cost $10 and have been on sale since Monday, October 5, at the Clubhouse and the Joslyn Center.
Last year the Frolic came six days early
The 2025 Frolic ran Saturday, October 25, from noon to 4 p.m. Families got their downtown Halloween on one weekend and their trick-or-treating on another. This year the hours and the blocks stay the same, and only the date moves, onto the holiday itself.
This has happened before. A 2009 El Segundo Herald calendar listed a city Halloween Frolic on Main Street for Saturday, October 31, 2009, with contests, games and bouncers. That was another year when Halloween fell on a Saturday. The archived Herald page shows the Frolic dates back at least that far. The city calls it an annual event in both its 2025 notice and its 2026 listing.
In practice, the shift means the Frolic and trick-or-treating no longer compete for separate weekends. Costumes go on once. The afternoon happens downtown, and the rest of the evening is free for whatever the family already does on Halloween night.
Noon to four on Main Street
The city's 2026 event listing promises bounce houses, arts and crafts, games, music and food. The Recreation, Parks & Library department's general description of the Frolic is longer. It mentions a haunted house, games, bouncers, live entertainment, food vendors, and costume and pumpkin contests. That page carries no date, so it describes the event in general terms, not this year's lineup.
This year's notice is shorter than last year's. Here is how the two compare:
| 2025 Frolic | 2026 Frolic | |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Saturday, Oct. 25 | Saturday, Oct. 31 |
| Hours | Noon to 4 p.m. | Noon to 4 p.m. |
| Location | Main Street | 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street |
| Presale wristband | $10, unlimited games and bouncers | $10, on sale from Oct. 5 |
| Day-of wristband | $15 | Not yet listed |
| Published program | Costume contest at 12:20 p.m., "Thriller" at 2 p.m., marionette show at 2:30 p.m., roving magician 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. | Not yet listed |
The 2025 column is last year's record and doesn't confirm anything for 2026. In 2025, Athletic Grace Dance Studio performed "Thriller" at 2 p.m. and the costume contest started at 12:20 p.m. If you want to plan around a specific act or know what the wristband covers on October 31, call the city's information line at 310-524-2700. Last year, waiting until the day of the event cost $5 more, so buying a presale wristband at the Clubhouse or the Joslyn Center this week is the safer move.
The Frolic footprint also takes in one of downtown's newer storefronts. Time Out Los Angeles reported on July 16 that EZPZ was open at 321 Main Street, serving New York-style pizza and organic soft-serve. The partners are producer Beau Flynn, actor Marley Shelton and Urban Oven founder Scott Tremonti. Time Out reported that Flynn described it as a neighborhood spot for kids, families, firefighters and local workers. Its address puts it on the 300 block, inside the Frolic's footprint.
The afternoon hands off to Richmond Street
A Saturday Halloween also lines the Frolic up with another downtown Halloween tradition. Old Town Music Hall at 140 Richmond Street is showing the 1925 silent "The Phantom of the Opera" on Saturday, October 31, 2026. There are two showings, at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., with live accompaniment on the hall's Mighty Wurlitzer and an introduction from a film archivist.
The two times split the day in different ways. The 2:30 p.m. showing overlaps the second half of the Frolic, so it suits households where one adult takes the kids to Main Street and another wants an hour and 47 minutes of silent horror with an organ score. The 7 p.m. showing starts well after the Frolic wraps at 4 p.m. That gives an adults' Halloween evening downtown without crossing the Frolic's schedule.
- Noon: Halloween Frolic opens on the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street.
- 2:30 p.m.: First "Phantom of the Opera" showing at Old Town Music Hall.
- 4 p.m.: Frolic closes.
- 7 p.m.: Second "Phantom of the Opera" showing, with live Wurlitzer accompaniment.
In a year when the Frolic falls on the 25th, those two events land six days apart. This year they share one Saturday and two downtown addresses.
The week before is built for younger kids
With the Frolic on the 31st, the city's smaller October events become the run-up to it, not an afterthought. From this Thursday, three are still ahead:
- Boo Bucket Bonfire, Friday, Oct. 23, 5 to 8 p.m. The Fire Circle at Recreation Park hosts a free evening of bucket painting, s'mores, treats and a family movie. It's for children ages 3 to 5 with an accompanying adult. The buckets get decorated eight days before they're needed.
- Pumpkin Poolooza, Saturday, Oct. 24, 1 to 3 p.m. The Plunge fills with a floating pumpkin patch, along with pumpkin decorating, games and raffles. Registration runs through the city's esrec.org portal.
- Fall Family Excursion to Underwood Family Farms, Saturday, Oct. 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The trip goes to the farm's All About Pumpkins festival, with shuttle pickup and drop-off at Gordon Clubhouse. The price is $41 for residents and $51 for nonresidents.
October 24 is the Saturday the Frolic would have taken in a 2025-style calendar. This year it holds a pool event and a farm trip instead, and the Main Street afternoon waits for the holiday. Earlier in the month, the city also showed "Ghostbusters" at Library Park on October 10 as part of Sunset Cinema.
Planning around one Saturday
The practical steps are simple. Buy wristbands at the Clubhouse or the Joslyn Center before the 31st. Choose the 2:30 or 7 p.m. "Phantom" showing based on who's at the Frolic and who isn't. Register for Pumpkin Poolooza now if a child in the house wants in. City Hall at 350 Main Street is the Frolic's listed location, and the 300 block includes EZPZ at 321 Main for anyone who wants a slice and soft-serve while they're there.
For households near the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street, this year's Frolic is a Halloween afternoon close to home.
