We’re so blessed to live in sunny Southern California, and we hope this Thanksgiving finds you celebrating with family and/or friends – maybe down at the beach this year!
This is also a wonderful time to give back to those in need, and a great way to create a meaningful family outing. Here are a few places around town that would love an extra helping hand at this time of year:
South Bay Food Initiative
Started by three friends who began a food-donation club at their high school and expanded to create this local non-profit, the South Bay Food Initiative is the perfect place to support those in our local communities who are experiencing food insecurity at this time of year. Check out their website for monthly events and volunteering opportunities, including Soup Kitchen hours, food drives and sorting, and making lunches and baskets: www.southbayfoodinitiative.com.
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
According to their website, “One in five people in Los Angeles County experiences food insecurity.” Their mission is to make sure no one goes hungry in Los Angeles, and there are a ton of opportunities to help this longtime organization – from serving pancake breakfasts, preparing meals for families, donating $25 for 100 meals, or collecting pantry items, this is a wonderful place to make a difference, which they’ve been doing since 1973. www.lafoodbank.org
Project Angel Food
Since 1989, Project Angel Food’s mission has been “to prepare and delivery healthy meals to people impacted by serious illness, bringing comfort and hope every day.” For those focused on getting well, knowing they don’t have to worry about nutritious meals each day is indeed of great comfort, and you can help in this vital mission. From meal delivery and kitchen assistance to office projects, special events, and “telephone angels”, there are a variety of ways to participate. Individuals, families, and friends are encouraged – the perfect way to gather a group together to give back. www.angelfood.org
