Summer is in full swing in the South Bay and while there is (almost) no other place we’d rather be, we wouldn’t mind a tiny break from the crowded beaches and tourists galore, not to mention hard-to-get dinner resos. Whether you’re thinking of a last-minute getaway along our own stunning coast or a venture to foreign shores, now is the perfect time to take that long-awaited vacation. Here is one of our favorite California road trips, plus an introduction to one of our favorite destination planners:
The 101
Hop in the car (perhaps the top is down?) and take a drive up the famed 101 to gorgeous Montecito, California. Stop at Field + Fort in Summerland for a delicious lunch and some special new finds for your home before checking in to the Miramar Beach Hotel in Montecito. Situated right on the sand and one of California’s most luxurious resorts, a drink at the bar and a cozy night in one of their beautifully appointed guest rooms is worth the drive (and the price). Continue up the coast the next day and end up at the Vespera Resort on Pismo Beach next to the pier. Truly a quintessential California bungalow-style hotel, this little gem is one of the Central Coast’s most popular destinations. After a morning walk on the sand, make your way to your final stop at the Carmel Valley Ranch. Relax and unwind amongst the picturesque hills of Carmel Valley, then take time to stroll around Carmel-by-the-Sea before an unforgettable dinner at Aubergine. Stay a few days to thoroughly enjoy this NorCal haven, then head back to the South Bay just in time for the International Surf Festival in Manhattan Beach, August 4-5. You’re welcome!
